The bell tolled again.

They’d be coming for him soon….

He knew exactly how long he’d been in this place. Moved around every decade or so. Passed from one owner to
another. He was used to being bought and sold for sex in the early days, but they found they could make more credits from him doing something else. Fighting.

As a Cyborg he was a curiosity. The only one that had been sold on originally to do a job. Given an order over his neuro net he could not refuse. Remain behind to ensure the contract this world had was fulfilled. The colonists owed 100 years of mining rights, precious metals and jewels to be sent back on the resupplying ships.

He was meant to return on the last one. Only it never came. His programming compromised. He had no choice but to remain, the humans changing his programming to suit themselves.

Stronger, faster than humans, highly skilled, with fast healing abilities he could take on several humans at once and win.

When they thought that was too easy and patrons getting bored, they brought in numbers. Then animals. Then multiple bouts over one night.

He’d been on this world over 200 years and seen it all.

Trying to hold on. Getting through one day at a time. Waiting for Earth Corp to come back. But his logic told him they might be gone forever. No one knowing where he was. Trying to stay alive in the face of improbable odds.

Had his pain receptors and emotions been on, he’d have gone insane a long time ago.

Footsteps approached, the scent of the female hit him.

She had no place in the fighting cells. Keeping his head down she was brought in unconscious. Placing her on the other bed in the cage. She’d taken a beating. Her blood coated his senses. His heckles rose. Standing he clenched his fists.

They knew better than to play with him...

“Calm down warrior. She held her own. A choice she made, not us.”

“Why?” He rarely used his voice; it was raw and gravelly.

“Why else? She needs the credits and agreed to partner up with you in the next bout. You have two days to get her ready. Until then she’s yours.”

His?..... It had been a long time since he’d chosen a female….. Did she understand what that meant?.....
