Wait for Death

(1957)
(Book 32 in the Patrick Dawlish series)
A novel by

When Patrick Dawlish and his wife, Felicity, visit the promenade at Brighton Beach, crowded with thousands of sun worshipers in various stages of undress and sunburn, they discover they are being followed by a voluptuous blonde in a bikini. The pursued becomes the pursuer as Dawlish decides to follow the blonde, leaving Felicity to take a dip in the sea. But the blonde disappears, and when Dawlish returns to the beach, reliable witnesses report that Felicity has indeed swum out into the water - but no one has seen her return. Writing as Gordon Ashe, and at the top of his form, John Creasey takes Dawlish to London, to his country estate, and then across the channel to Paris where he believes Felicity is waiting for death. This is a whirlwind thriller by the master of suspense that will surely please Mr. Creasey's many devoted fans.
