No bookplate, inscriptions or marks of any kind. Very good clean, tight sound, gently shaken, in original black lettered red cloth, dusted and creased to rear, rolled to corners and rubbed to spine. A nostalgic delight. The William stories centre around the mischievous 11-year-old schoolboy and his band of friends, known as "The Outlaws", puzzled onlookers of society's mores who almost always emerge triumphant. According to the actor John Teed, whose family lived next door to Crompton, the model for William was Crompton's nephew Tommy. "I used to play with her nephew. He used to get up to all sorts of tricks and he was always presumed to be the inspiration by all of us."
