It’s a snowy January in the woods near the Big Wolf Nature Preserve in Wyoming’s glorious mountain wilderness and Esme Gardner is once again joining Ethan MacKinnon to blog about how cozy the winter can be, living a simple life in a tiny house in the middle of nowhere. The only problem? Esme and Ethan don’t actually live in the tiny house. They aren’t really the minimalists they’re pretending to be and they’re only just learning the principles of hygge—the Danish art of coziness.
Still, as an artist and freelance photographer trying to get their respective careers off the ground, the two friends are willing to put on a show since their blog has quickly gone viral and they’re being paid handsomely to weave a fantasy life for their followers.
But there’s nothing cozy about finding a body floating in the lake. Esme and Ethan find themselves tangled up in a hunt for priceless stolen jewels and a murderer—all the while pretending to be enjoying the good life.
