My name is Bell, and I’m a pariah. I used to be popular before my best friend and I were taken. She escaped, but I remained behind for more than two years until I was free. It took everything in me to do it, surviving his daily challenges until I reached the mystical number Warden was aiming for.

Returning to school has been hell, with bullying coming from every angle led by one of the most popular girls in school.

Celeste. My former best friend.

Our senior class trip was supposed to start the day a huge solar flare was due to pass by the Earth.

The calculations were wrong.

That turns our trip of relaxation and fun into a desperate attempt to survive in a world where I’m the only person that has any experience surviving. Yet I’m hated and alone in a group.

Can a bunch of kids stay alive in the wilderness after our plane falls from the sky? With death on the line, we have to come together as a group to make it happen. That sounds fantastic, it’s just that it’s all too common for the strong to take charge. To control. The strong, not the smart.

Warden told me I survived my time with him because I persevere. Just as I faced under him, there are two rules in the wild. Survive. Or die.
