Our senior class trip to Florida was supposed to be the capper to our final year of high school. Too bad a massive solar flare decided to pay a visit and wipe out electronics, which sent us off course to end up in the Canadian wilderness.

We’re surviving. We went from hoping and praying for a quick rescue to the reality that…no one seems to be coming for us. In light of that, that means we have to create a life for us here.

Too bad factions start forming that tear us apart as a group.

We went from classmates to savages with one fateful plane ride.

Surviving isn’t guaranteed, especially when winter starts setting in. When the wind and the cold and the snow pay a visit and stay for months on end, it’s time for all of us to learn what it really takes to remain alive even one more day.

My name is Bell, and it’s taking everything in me to keep going.

I’m an outsider in a group where they need the information I have to share, all the while hating or fearing me. All of that adds to the rest of the pressure of being here, and it’s crushing in so many ways.

Can we survive the uncaring cold and ice? Can we hold off our fellow students as they decide that their wants are more important than our lives? Is it even worth pushing through everything coming our way?

You can’t survive something like this on a whim. You have to dedicate yourself to it. You have to release the bounds of civility and embrace what it takes to face the oncoming tide of
everything being thrown at us.
It’s that or die, and I, for one, want to live.
