Lost in Scotland

(2017)
A novel by

Skye doesn't believe in her family curse-not really. Not like her mom and sister believe in it. Sure, she can't travel anywhere without losing her luggage. And every pet she's ever owned has run away, including the caged ones. And, yes, every man in her family, both immediate and extended, has died tragically. But these things can be chalked up to bad luck or coincidence. They surely can't be because a sticky-fingered great-grandfather took a few things that didn't belong to him from some powerful Scottish clans and brought a curse on their family. But, curse or no curse, Skye lives by certain rules. She never travels alone. She gave up owning pets years ago. And she never, ever dates someone she really likes. Because if there's one thing she learned growing up, it's that loving someone is a dangerous thing, and it's a lot more comfortable in life to play it safe.

But all of Skye's rules are thrown out the window when her sister Iona calls her from Scotland, begging Skye to come help her break the family curse before their mother dies. Hearing of her mother's illness, Skye throws caution to the wind, cancels her plans for the amazing study-abroad program she had been saving for, and jets off to Scotland. But the travel curse is strong with Skye, and it gets stronger the closer she gets to her goal. If not for Ethan, the cute Scottish guy she runs into in the airport, she would never get past security, much less to the small islands off the coast of Scotland, where she finds her sister and her mother, in perfect health, and not at all sorry for using trickery to get Skye to Scotland.

But if getting there is more than half the battle for Skye, getting there with her heart intact is even harder, for Ethan steals it along the way as surely as her infamous ancestor stole the magical Raven Banner. But whether the curse is real or not, and whether they succeed in breaking it or not, Skye must make the decision of a lifetime: to risk her heart by loving, or to play it safe for the rest of her life.
