It looks like a clear case of murder by stabbing, perpetrated by a teenage gang gate-crashing a private party. But Liverpool police detective Sam Bawtry, who is always apt to see beyond the obvious when investigating crime, isn't convinced. He sets out, with little official backing, to uncover more than circumstantial evidence - and finds himself in a maze of seemingly disconnected intrigue. In the end, he faces a macabre challenge.
