"There is no one coming to save us, no one who can be entrusted with our defense. There is only us - and we will have to be enough."

New Year's Eve, 2000. The end of an old year, the dawn of a new. But man never changes. . .

And in the Middle East, the frail peace of the new millennium's earliest months has now been shattered by the savagery of a growing intifada, violence which first gripped the world with the brutal lynching of Israeli reservists in the West Bank city of Ramallah now spilling into the streets.

In the wake of Ramallah, the Mossad dispatched a Kidon team led by a young assassin named Ariel, the"Lion of God", to Europe to track down and kill Mustafa al-Shukeiri, the man responsible for the lynchings. A mission which ended in blood and fire one dark night on the Mediterranean island of Elba.

They thought it was the end. But it was only the beginning. . .

For al-Shukeiri's plans ran far deeper than anyone had dared suspect. And the Americans are involved.

And as Ariel's Kidon team races to stop a "weapon" from being transported out of Saddam's Iraq and into Palestinian hands, only one thing seems certain:

No one can be trusted. And the safety of the Jewish state is in their hands.
