The Hanging of August Miller

(2014)
A novel by

August Miller - Texan, Indian Territory Marshal, former Confederate cavalryman, and a man who never accepted the South's surrender. All around him he sees the ill effect of the Confederacy's loss as the Northern victors lord it over the defeated South and carpetbaggers gather in the spoils like so many vultures.
Feeling short-changed at every turn, and seeing his family suffer because he wore gray, only serves to fuel his seething animosity toward all things Yankee. In a desperate act fueled by his rage, he strikes a blow against the hated oppressors and finds himself a wanted outlaw on the run.
Seeing himself as a Confederate patriot, August strikes another blow for the South which leads him down a road where he is both hero and villain... until he realizes that his life is spiraling out of his control, that he has lost more than he ever gained, and all that lies at the end of the road is a rope...
