Nolan and his brothers go to the Zamora hacienda to meet with Don Felipe regarding the threats posed by James Mason and Dillon Clarke. They needed to combine their forces and strengthen the alliance between them. In their meeting, Felipe pointed out the strengths and weaknesses they both held. He felt that the two halves of the grant should be reunited to take full advantage of the benefits each could lend to the other. Nolan agreed they both possessed something the other needed, but Felipe’s solution was not what Nolan had expected.
Learning that Nolan did have the proper documents to prove his ownership, Mason needed a new plan to force Zamora and Callahan to relinquish their ownership of the land. Concocting a scheme with Dillon and Esmerelda to kidnap Felipe’s daughter, Teresa, and trade her back for the land, they set the works in motion. The abduction came off smoothly, but now they had a raging mountain lion by the tail as the Zamoras and Callahans declared war on everyone involved, and hell-fire was about to rain down on Mason and Clarke.
