He inherited a case that nearly got his colleague killed. Now it's his job to finish it.
When a Montana Department of Livestock agent is shot three times in the line of duty, Hudson Anderson steps in to take over an investigation that runs deeper than anyone anticipated. Stolen cattle, a crooked insurance adjuster, a web of family loyalties, and a suspect with a head start. Hud has one shot to get ahead of a man who has spent years staying one step ahead of everyone else.

The last thing Hud needs right now is distraction. But Blair, the beautiful woman he managed to charm and then promptly offend on their first date, has taken up permanent residence in his thoughts. He said the wrong thing, walked away on his pride, and has been paying for it ever since.

Blair didn't come to Clifton looking for complicated. She came for a fresh start, a job she loved, and a quiet life she could call her own. What she didn't plan on was Hud; broad shouldered, stubborn as the day is long, and somehow impossible to stop thinking about despite her better judgment. He overstepped, she made her feelings plain, and now the ball was in his court. The trouble was, waiting for a man like Hud to come around requires a patience she isn't sure she has.

With the case pulling him away and the distance between them growing, both of them are running out of time to say what needs to be said.
