The Descent From Truth

(2012)
A novel by

Gaylon Greer's THE DESCENT FROM TRUTH is reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN with its gritty Western elements and dark, ruthless villains, as well as THE LONG MARCH TO FREEDOM by Thomas Hargrove, which was later turned in the movie "Proof of Life" (2000), starring Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan. Any thriller fan who reads THE DESCENT FROM TRUTH will want to stick with the series to come.

Alex Bryson is performing a routine sweep of the Colorado resort where he works when he discovers a woman and a baby wandering alone in the snow. Far from the nearest road, Alex decides to investigate. Taking shelter in a local cabin, Bryson sees a newscast that suggests Pia kidnapped the baby from his rightful parents - and in fact he is the sole heir to Peru's wealthiest and most corrupt family. Pia claims that she is the baby's mother and that she was supposed to give him away, but Bryson doesn't know what to believe. After turning Pia in, he continues to struggle with his budding feelings for her and remains unsure of the true story. Bryson becomes more and more involved until finally there is no turning back - their lives are on the line. He helps set Pia free from a brutal world of terrorism that values money over life, and together they devise a plan to reclaim the baby. Just when it looks like they might succeed, they become part of a rebellious government conspiracy that will change the game entirely. The clear and highly readable writing, along with the suspenseful and well-detailed plot will make THE DESCENT FROM TRUTH one of this year's smash hits.

Working with traveling carnivals and itinerant farm labor gangs during his teen and early adult years took Gaylon Greer up, down, and across the U.S. and introduced him to a plethora of colorful individuals who serve as models for his fictional characters. After several years as an Air Force officer and then a university professor with a Ph.D in economics, Greer developed an interest in writing fiction and attended workshops at the University of Iowa, the University of Nebraska, and Bryn-Mawr College. He also studied with the U.C. Davis Extension program and the Algonquian Writers Group. His publishing credits include his first novel, THE PRICE OF SANCTURARY.
