Some things can be saved without anyone ever writing down why they mattered.

Corvin Pike has spent fourteen years making sure everything goes in the right place.

As a Binding Inspector for District Seven, he measures, records, classifies, and files. He believes in correct forms, proper procedure, and the comforting certainty that if something matters, there ought to be a place to write it down.

Then he is sent to Sallowmere.

At the edge of the old canal town lies Sarn’s Walk, four hundred and forty-one yards of grass, worn tracks, tarred posts, and the last hand-laid rope-walk in the district. A Navigation project needs the ground for heavy equipment. The rope-maker who works it refuses to call what he does a heritage trade. His daughter wants nothing from the Board. A young man has asked five times to be taught and been refused. And a woman on the nearby row has spent eleven years writing letters about a chained footbridge nobody seems responsible for opening.

Corvin can save the rope-walk.

The problem is that he may only be able to save it for the wrong reason.

As deadlines close in and every correct answer seems to leave something important outside the file, Corvin begins to discover the limits of accuracy, the cost of being right, and the difference between recording a thing and truly seeing it.

The Last Rope at Sarn’s Walk is a warm, thoughtful cozy fantasy about old trades, quiet magic, stubborn people, bureaucracy, belonging, and the ordinary things that become precious only when they are almost gone.

Perfect for readers who enjoy gentle fantasy, richly lived-in worlds, understated magic, found community, and stories where the stakes are deeply human rather than world-ending.
