Born with the lowly Tinkerer Class, Kael Riven has only a lifetime of toil and drudgery ahead of him. But one day, after a catastrophe, he finds his soul bound to a powerful Relicant, a floating and talking book called the Azure Grimoire. As a result, he gains a new Class, the Soulscriber. With this Class, he can scribe the spells of his slain foes into the pages of the Azure Grimoire and in doing so, learn how to cast those very spells as well.
But such power comes with a price. The Soulscriber Class and the Azure Grimoire are forbidden by the Lattice System, the network of power that governs every aspect of existence in Aetharion, where humanity dwells amongst the clouds atop floating skylands, and anything the System forbids, it does its utmost to get rid of.
And then there’s the matter of the Azure Grimoire consuming Kael’s soul unless he continually feeds it the souls of fiends…
