Adapting to an Amish Christmas

(2023)
A Story by

Growing up in the Amish community, knowing that she could never have children of her own was difficult for Claudia Lapp. A birth defect had caused her infertility, and though she has gotten over the grief of that pain, she still longs for a family. But no one in the community would marry the infertile woman.

Claudia is only eighteen, though. She has time. As Christmas comes around, she hears her father and another man in the community – Alexander Smucker – talking as she is cleaning one day. Alexander has taken in his nephew and is looking for more family to take him in if he doesn't like the way of life in the Amish community.

Claudia immediately offers to watch the young boy.

Alexander Smucker is quite taken aback by Claudia's offer to watch his nephew, Ian. His sister's death has been hard for him, but perhaps harder for his nephew than anything else. He worries that Ian has been spoiled by the city and will give Claudia a hard time.

As Claudia draws closer to Ian, she has a decision to make: can she live with herself if Ian leaves to live with an Englischer family, or will her heart break all over again?
