A Story by

Sarah Yoder pushed her rumspringa back a year because her grandmother fell ill. As much as she has always felt connected to the Amish community she grew up in, she needs to see if the city holds anything better for her. She doubts it, but she has to see, right? So, off she goes. And for a year, she's not all that impressed with the city.

George Hartford is in his last year of college. Last semester. He's just doing his required internship, and then he'll be done with the degree he's worked so hard to earn. As he's doing repair work on a property that one of the employees' friends lives in, he is drawn to one of the other houses.

When these two paths collide, Sarah isn't entirely sure where she will end up going. She had been ready to talk to the bishop about being baptized because she was so sure that the Englischers had nothing for her. If she were to marry an Englischer, she would give up everything else she holds dear. So, she takes a stance: no matter what happens, she will be returning to the Amish community.

With some help from her friend Anne and some advice from her dad, she starts a courtship with this man. As she learns about him and his goals, she wonders if this will be something she can do.

When she decides to be baptized anyway, she leaves the choice to George: will they end up together, or will Sarah have to mend a hole in her heart when he leaves?
