It is April 1945 and the Allies are engaged in the final, bitter struggle against the desperate defenders of the Fatherland. Most Germans know the war is lost. Most, but not all. Some remain convinced that victory is possible. Provided they complete the latest of Hitler’s much-vaunted ‘superweapons. Most have proved useless. Yet one is not useless. They are about to make a breakthrough with a weapon that can change the course of the war. And of the world.

Lieutenant Murphy’s 2nd Ranger Platoon on a reconnaissance mission in the town of Nordhausen, on the northern edge of the mysterious and impenetrable Harz Mountains. A place where gruesome legends and dark superstitions abound. Yet the bullet that slams into his shoulder from long range is no superstition. A Russian bullet, and that means a Red Army squad is operating inside the American zone. Why?

They encounter an escaped prisoner, a Jew. Before the war he was a professor of nuclear physics, captured and forced to develop a devastating new weapon in an underground facility deep beneath the town. Murphy notifies the divisional commander who refuses to believe his cock and bull story. By way of punishment, he relegates 2nd Platoon to guard the supply train. When the division comes under a surprise attack from enemy troops dug in on the slope of the Harz, the senior officers freeze. Men are dying unnecessarily, and it is time to hit back. Murphy orders his platoon to join the battle. Doing what they do best. Attacking and killing the enemy.

The shooting dies down, but he is not done. There is the question of the facility hidden underground, deep inside the Harz Mountains. If he is right, the Allies stand to lose the war. If he is wrong, all he has to lose is his career. No contest.

To locate the facility they must fight their way past desperate Germans and homicidal Russians. Engaged in an endless series of no-quarters battles, and there can only be one winner. The prize is overwhelming military supremacy. For the loser, overwhelming defeat.

A full-length novel by the bestselling author of many Spec Ops books. These include the popular Grant’s War series, SEAL Team Bravo, Heroes of Afghanistan, Raider, Echo Six, and Devil's Guard titles.
