Recently, Eutychus Bly had the displeasure of meeting sixteen-year-old Johnny Red on a train ride while in route to Topeka to meet with the governor. Red took umbrage with another man on the train who chided him for his rude behavior shown toward his mother. Eutychus stepped in and with the help of a couple of other fellows took Johnny to the freight car and disciplined him. Spitting venomous threats, Red vowed to get even. News has come to Kingman that this young man has now committed his first murder.
When Johnny’s mother shows up on the front porch of the Blys and makes a personal plea to Eutychus to find her son and arrest him before he is shot down, the lawman has no choice but to oblige her.
If ever a young man suffered from blood lust, it was Johnny Red. He seemed to enjoy violence and was intent on making his mark on the Kansas frontier. And that’s exactly what he did.
