They say time heals all wounds.
They lie.
San Francisco attorney Maureen Gould hasn’t heard from her godmother, the flamboyant 80s rock star Poppy Collins, in years. That is, not until Poppy was on the scene when the band’s front man, her ex-husband, dies under mysterious circumstances. Someone is trying to frame Poppy for his murder.
Meanwhile Poppy is in the middle of a custody battle over her cherished twelve-year-old grandson who lost his mother in a tragic car accident. When the boy’s father learns the boy stands to inherit millions, he reappears on the scene demanding his parental right. As news of the murder investigation is leaked, the father escalates his battle using the evidence as leverage.
Poppy doesn''t want to lose her grandson. Maureen doesn’t want her client to go to jail.
As Maureen digs into the band’s past, she uncovers a viper’s nest of secrets, betrayals, buried secrets and scandals, one of which was worth killing for.
Will Maureen find the evidence needed to exonerate Poppy and rescue her grandson?

Praise for the Maureen Gould Legal Thrillers
Sharp-witted, big-hearted and authentic, Implied Consent is a knock-out of a novel from a writer who knows both the letter of the law and the messiness of real life. Treat yourself - you won't regret it. CATRIONA McPHERSON, multi-award-winning author of IN PLACE OF FEAR.
Keenan Powell has penned her most memorable heroine to date. Powerful and authentic. Implied Consent is a must read! Bruce Robert Coffin, award-winning author of the Detective Byron Mysteries
The Millionaire: Powell's second Maureen Gould thriller (after Implied Consent) packs a wallop. Even relatively minor characters are nicely fleshed out, and all get their just deserts in a wind-up that is both surprising and satisfying, leaving readers to eagerly await Maureen's next case. Takeaway: A lawyer defends a man wrongly accused of murder while facing her own childhood demons. Booklife Review
The Pied Piper: I adore this series by attorney/author Keenan Powell, who writes gripping contemporary tales featuring Maureen Gould, a feminist attorney in private practice in San Fran. This time, Maureen represents her paralegal/office manager's niece, Esme Castillo, who has been swindled out of her business. The twists and turns made me read madly to the end. A must-read for legal thriller fans! Char Jones, Reviewer
The Judge: I am such a fan of attorney/author Keenan Powell's legal novels that I was thrilled to hear about book 4 of 4 of this fabulous series. The Judge kept my rapt attention as attorney Maureen Gould is asked to serve as a special prosecutor in a case involving Judge Rachel Newkirk and the murder of her husband.
What makes this book and the entire series so real is the author's strong legal background. I felt as if I were inside character Maureen Gould's head as she makes decisions about the case. I also love how the author fleshes out and makes you care about lesser characters too, including Maureen's husband, daughter, and willful kitty named Germaine Greer.
If you adore legal thrillers as I do, as well as whip-smart writing and gripping narratives with unpredictable twists and turns, you will want to read The Judge as soon as it comes out on July 26. Highly recommended!
