R S Penney grew up in Southern Ontario, and has been writing fiction since he was 16. When he first started out, he planned on writing epic fantasy in the tradition of J.R.R. Tolkien or Robert Jordan, but quickly discovered that he did't have the patience to thrive in that genre. Ihe has never been all that fond of describing long treks through the countryside. So he took the characters he love and brought them into a modern setting.

So he trys to create a cast populated by people of all genders, ethnicities and orientations. If you like genre bending stuff like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you'll love his books.
