Smoldering is a queer fantasy following Soraya, a young woman who sets out into the tangle of impossible worlds known as the Briarpatch in search of her lost love Lisette, encountering strange people and stranger vistas along the way. It is a standalone, but serves as a sequel of sorts to Hugo Award winner Tim Pratt's earlier novel Briarpatch, revealing the eventual fates of characters from that book as well.
