This is a tale of secrets, deception and honour which begins in 1978 in Edinburgh where Daniel Mackenzie, Francoise Laforesterie's teenage grandson, tries to piece together his family history. His mother, Margo Mackenzie has told him that his French grandmother escorted escaped prisoners and men on the run through occupied France until she was executed in the last days of the war. But Daniel suspects that his mother, Margo has a terrible secret of her own. Daniel's questioning, recording of a television war series and correspondence with an author of wartime escape stories, uncovers a complex web of deceit and treachery within the Amberac Cognac and Mackenzie Whisky families.
