A Pentagon colonel with the answer is found dead in a sleazy Washington motel. Max Geller, now a consultant to the DC Metro police, and Greta Von Wiles, an Army intelligence officer, are assigned to investigate the colonel's death. Their investigation takes them from New York City to a secret base in California and across the Atlantic, through the Mediterranean, and into the Middle East. As they get closer to the thieves and uncover a plot to trigger a White House coup, the two become targets of a CIA hit team and an arms dealer. The surprises never stop.
