AN ABSOLUTELY GRIPPING CRIME THRILLER WITH A MASSIVE TWIST

For forty-four years Mary Harrington has lived in Rivershore, Michigan, a rural community of five thousand. During that time she owned a small book store, married the town dentist, and raised a son. Two-years ago she buried her husband. She's a model citizen . . . with a secret.

Halloween eve, Mary is on her way home from celebrating her only granddaughter's eighteenth birthday. Her car breaks down within walking distance of her house. She notices she's being watched by two teen gang members and hopes, if she's mugged, they simply take her purse and run.

Sergeant Jack Rossini has been with the Rivershore Police Department for twenty-four years, and in their small department, he's the primary investigator. When he hears dispatch call for officers, he decides to help. He finds two teen gang members in need of medical attention and claiming they were attacked by an old lady.

HOW DID A SEVENTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD BEAT UP TWO GANG MEMBERS?

Mary seems like any other senior citizen. But something doesn’t add up about her story.

The detective's running the risk of making the same mistake as her attackers — underestimating Mary Harrington.

A long time ago Mary did things she hoped no one would ever find out about.

Now the criminals wants revenge. Mary will do anything to keep her son and granddaughter safe.

THE DETECTIVE
Sergeant Jack Rossini is an enterprising police officer who begins digging into Mary’s past. He can find nothing about her life before she opened a bookstore forty-four years ago. He’s suspicious, and asks his son who works for the FBI to see what he can find. Both are told to cease their efforts by superiors.

THE SETTING
The town of Rivershore had been built along the banks of the Ash River back in the late 1800s, and for a time was a way-stop for travellers going from Kalamazoo to Lake Michigan. By the early 1990s, the town had attracted several small companies, along with residents who preferred living in a small town and were willing to drive to Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids for their jobs. Then came the economic downturn in 2008. Now many houses are boarded up as people move away to find work.
