Sometimes our closest friends are the ones we can't see.

Dr. Maxine Decasta is retiring after a long and decorated career helping disturbed children. But before she can attend her celebratory dinner – before she can give a speech and pop a bottle of champagne –
She is suddenly face to face with a patient she hasn't seen in twenty-five years.

It's been so long, but yes, Maxine remembers Ariel. When she last saw her, Ariel was only nine years old. She was the loneliest girl in school.
She was so lonely, she made up her own friends. There was one in particular that got Ariel in all sorts of trouble. His name was Simon.

Before long Ariel is sitting on the couch across from Maxine, all grown up, just like they used to. Ariel is worried about her daughter Ruthie and wants Maxine to help.

Maxine wants to help Ariel and Ruthie, but it isn't so simple. Ariel is asking her questions about the past. She wants to know about Simon, and why everyone lied to her.

She wants to know, because Ruthie has a new friend.

And his name is Simon too...
