NOTE from the Department of National Records Preservation (DNRP) (By a FOIA [Freedom of Information Act]Request) filed on September 22, 2040: This copy of the document known as ‘Black Friday, The Truce’ is the ninth notebook written by Israel Tabs, also known as the Elder. It is released only for historical purposes and is not to be released to any foreign entity.
The ninth notebook covers the Elder’s and Loren's refusal to work for the president and also their action against the armies of the president of the Central and South American Hispanic nation, Roberto Legrá Sotolongo. Sotolongo was furious with the United States of America for the killing of his family in the Third World War when the U.S. decided to remove the thorn that had been in their side for seventy years, communist Cuba. A flight of B-52s dropped sixty nuclear weapons on the island.
Sotolongo’s family had been in Havana when the bombs exploded. Three megaton range weapons completely leveled Havana. Less than two hundred survived, and most of them expired within days of the attack. Sotolongo wanted revenge for the loss of his family, so he sent special operations soldiers into America to attack and kill the leaders of the hundreds of surviving communities. He wanted blood revenge. He tried to weaken the country so that it would be impossible for it to be rebuilt.
Sontongo ordered his soldiers to locate the ducts and release the heavier-than-air poison gas into the Mountain. If that plan failed, he had a backup, one that could not only make it impossible for those in the Mountain to leave but would also poison most of America’s farmland.
Had his plan been successful, the nation couldn’t have been rebuilt to the degree it is now (2040). Loren played a special role in saving the President and his cabinet. She will always be remembered in the newly built ‘Hall of Heroes.’ Statues and their stories are told in the newly built capital. Anyone who would like to know more about Mrs. Tabs should plan a visit to the Hall. The Hall of Heroes covers those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the people of the United States. Some question why Mr. Tabs isn’t remembered in the Hall with his wife, it was decided that Mr. Tabs’ house would be turned into a living museum where thousands could see his plans and actions. His home has been designated a national treasure and museum. H is original notebooks are available for study with permission from the curator. They can not be removed from the museum, nor can they be touched by bare hands, in order to save them for future generations. Special gloves must be worn when studying his notebooks and the texts he saved.
The Tabs’ had to hide from the President’s promise of revenge against the couple for refusing to tour the battered country to help organize the surviving communities so America could be reborn. Loren told the president the Elder had suffered and was ill from his exposure to the nuclear explosion in Florida. She told the president, ‘He’s not well. He’s lost parts of his body, more than a third of his body is scar tissue from the burns he received from the bomb’s thermal pulse. A long trip through the ‘bad lands’ would most likely kill him.’
The president didn’t believe her. He’d promised many of the communities he was sending someone who had managed to bring hundreds of survivors together into a productive community. He promised them that the Elder would show them how they could copy his plan and adapt it to their local conditions. When the Elder and his wife refused to tour the country, the president told his advisors, ‘I want them on the ‘Most Wanted’ list. I want a reward on their heads.
