Criminologist Felix Heron and his wife, Thelma, investigate Sir Percival Trench's death on the hunting field. The inquest's verdict is that it was an accident, but his fiancee thinks otherwise. The case becomes increasingly complex, not least when it appears that Sir Percival's fortune of two hundred and twenty thousand pounds has vanished. Then, when the dead body of a 'grass' is found hanging on a tree - Heron has plenty to work on before finding an unexpected solution.
