He loved his parents, and while they had seemed tough growing up…it was their pushing that made him try new things and take on new adventures.

The Dumont Island Boarding House is located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and is only accessible by car ferry. Most roads on the island are gravel, though the main road that travels down the middle of the island is paved. There are conveniences such as a general store, post office, souvenir shops, café, and a post office on the island, as well as a few cottages spaced along the amazing coastline. The boarding house sits on the far side of the island, with limited resources including electricity supplied only by generator for a brief time during the early evening hours, with gasoline lanterns used at night. Everyone knows each other on the island and they all like to take care of each other as a community of neighbors.

Emily Carlton has lived a troubled life of foster care temporary placements, group homes, and reunifications with her parents. It has caused her to be introverted and to shield herself from personal relationships as everyone seems to disappoint her. Her biggest dream in life is to meet the sister she never knew, Rachel. When her mother asked to make the trip, she jumped at the opportunity. Little does she realize that ulterior motives are at the heart of this excursion, and a major misunderstanding may end any relationship with her sister before it can even get off the ground.

Evan came to Dumont Island when the old hardware store owner placed an ad to sell the business and retire to Florida. Evan had needed a fresh start and a quiet place to exist for a while, far from the demands of his ambitious family. He loved the pace of the island, with a community always willing to lend a hand and expect nothing in return. Emily's arrival on the island will put him in the middle of another family dispute that gives him flashbacks of his own past.

Can these two troubled souls find peace on Dumont Island? Will they have patience in the face of controversy as they both endure their family situations? Or will more misunderstandings drive them apart before love has a chance to take root?
