Murder by Christmas Eve
(2026)(Book 14 in the Moon's Landing Cozy Mystery series)
A Story by Shelley Weiss
A deputy is dead. Her best friend is accused. And Christmas Eve may be the killer’s perfect cover.
Birdie Lopez is enjoying a cozy evening decorating the tree with Mason and Butterscotch when an urgent call shatters the holiday cheer. Deputy Brenda Chavez has been murdered, and fellow deputy Maura Byrne was found unconscious nearby, covered in Brenda’s blood.
The evidence against Maura is overwhelming. Her service weapon is missing, a witness heard her threaten Brenda, and she refuses to speak to anyone except Birdie.
Certain that Maura is being framed, Birdie begins developing a different picture of the crime. Someone lured both deputies into a carefully planned trap and whoever did it seems determined to keep the investigation focused on Maura. As planted evidence, anonymous tips, and buried secrets lead Birdie toward the truth, she realizes the killer has been controlling the story from the beginning.
With Christmas Eve approaching and an innocent woman’s future hanging in the balance, Birdie must expose the murderer before the festive lights of Moon’s Landing conceal one final crime.
Filled with small-town charm, holiday warmth, loyal friendships, and one determined coonhound, Murder by Christmas Eve is a festive cozy mystery perfect for readers who like their Christmas cheer served with a side of murder.
