Satan Took a Bride

(1975)
A novel by

Antonia "Toni" Fleet has lived in a Spain convent all her life since she was abandoned there as an infant. Shortly after she turns 17 years old she decides she cannot stand the life anymore and literally jumps over the wall to freedom. She ends up washing dishes that evening for her supper but almost gets trampled by a crowd excited by a local festival. She is saved by Luque who takes her aboard his yacht when she's still unconscious. He tells her that she may work as his cabin boy - she realizes that he thinks she is a boy (short hair, not very voluptuous figure). Luque is half English and on their way up the coast, the yacht is mired in a bad storm and sinks resulting in the two having to go to Luque's English home where he insists she has to marry him because it has become known that they were on the yacht together - Luque knows that Toni is a girl by now.
