Charles Yu's "Hero Absorbs Major Damage" was already an extraordinary story: a hero, know only as The Hero, leads a small but devoted army across a magical landscape, battling orcs, sustaining significant damage, and, of course, searching for chickens. He received the National Book Foundation's 5 Under 35 Award for his story collection Third Class Superhero, and was a finalist for the PEN Center USA Literary Award. His most recent book is the story collection Sorry Please Thank You. He is at work on his next book, a novel titled The Book of Wishing. Yu lives in southern California with his wife, Michelle, and their two children.
