When divorced Thomasine picks up a bedraggled dog at the roadside her life changes. Through the dog she meets widowed vet Jim, separated Oliver, and show-dog breeder Eveleigh. But she also meets Tom, trainer of fighting dogs, who treats his animals as shamefully as he does his wife and daughter.
