In a new installment to the Fairy Wings series, goblins have kidnapped Bert, the bear-goblin. When Jak vows to rescue him, Tamisin and Gammi insist on helping, refusing to be left behind. Unfortunately, no one knows where the kidnappers have taken Bert, and the Gates aren’t working the way they should. After stepping through an unfamiliar Gate, Jak, Tamisin and Gammi go from one bad situation to another. They quickly learn that the only way they can survive is by working together.
The three rescuers travel halfway across the land of the fey before they discover clues to help them save Bert, yet each clue leaves them wondering if any of it is true. Along the way, they encounter strange hybrid animals, lake monsters, lamias, different goblin breeds and a very defensive guardian. Even after discovering the kidnapper’s lair, they still don’t know precisely what happened to Bert. Has Bert made it home as the kidnappers claim, or has he been lost, never to be seen again?
