Candice Carty-Williams recommends
The True Confessions of First Lady Freeman (2026)
Deesha Philyaw
"Deesha Philyaw is a master of detail, desire and delicious humour. This is a debut novel that could be deep into Philyaw's catalogue. I couldn't get enough."
Sweet Heat (2025)
Bolu Babalola
"Perfection in short story form, I am in love with every single word Bolu Babalola has written. So rarely is love expressed this richly, this vividly, or this artfully."
The Library Thief (2024)
Kuchenga Shenjé
"A tantalising read that swells with secrecy and intrigue. It's hard to believe that Kuchenga Shenje writes of the past, and not of the present. A beautifully and skilfully written debut."
