It's murder at Court. At least that's what Queen Hanna, monarch of the small European kingdom of Iconia, fears. Adamant that an ancient curse is about to be fulfilled, and that she is about to be done in by an unknown hand, she turns to Scotland Yard for help. The Yard obligingly dispatch England's finest, in the form of crime journalist and amateur sleuth Charles Venables. The heir to the throne, Prince Gustav, is convinced his mother's fears are exaggerated. Arriving in Iconia, however, Venables discovers a Court that has fallen on hard times and which harbours many secrets. And when the Queen's fears of an ancient curse prove to have a very solid basis in reality, Venables sets about unravelling the truth behind the dark forces that threaten the Iconian monarchy.

Originally published in 1935, this is a classic British murder mystery from the golden age of detection.
