Elaine was born and brought up in Kent and is currently at work on a major saga for Macmillan set on the outskirts of London.
The Woolworths' Girls (Macmillan) tells the story of Sarah Caselton as she starts her new job as a shop assistant at Woolworths, just before the outbreak of the Second World War. With her closest friends, bold and brash Maisie, shy Freda with a hidden past, and a touching blossoming romance with young Alan, Sarah falls into the warmth and rhythm of the town of Erith. But history waits for no one, and with the threat of war clouding the horizon, the young men and women of Erith soon realise they may not have the luxury of a carefree youth or the time to fall in love.
Married to Michael for many years, she is mad about dogs and exhibits Henry (her latest family member) at Crufts. She also runs The Write Place creative writing school, which she founded in 2009.
