The Exile

(1984)
A novel by

"Unusual setting ... May well be the best full blooded adventure story of the year."
The Exile is set in Namibia in an atmosphere of ancient tribal lore and guerrilla warfare.
Mazambaan was born a twin, and as a twin he should have been killed along with his brother, according to tribal custom. But through the sense of outrage and compassion of a European doctor he is allowed to live. He grows up to be utterly ruthless, devoid of any human feeling, allowing no obstacle to stand in his path of terrorism. He joins the South West African Peoples Organisation and becomes one of their most dangerous and wanted killers.

The Exile is also the story of McGee, a safari guide. After being attacked by Mazambaan he is nursed by Patricia, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy farmer. They fall in love, and their love helps him in his own private struggle for revenge. Throughout hangs the powerful spirit of the Ongonga, the witch-doctor of Mazambaan's tribe, who foresaw the evil in allowing him to live.
