Phil Nevitt, a young American, is sent by his firm to the West Indies to get information about a rival firm of distillers whose headquarters are at Annunziata, a small island seldom visited by tourists. Phil Nevitt duly arrives at the island, but in spite of its sun-drenched atmosphere of scented flowers and tinkling guitars he realises that there is something sinister about the place.
