Personal account of life as the son of the creator of the Gormanghast trilogy and official war artist, both at the liberation of Belsen and at the execution of Nazi war criminals. Brought up in a far from mundane household the author was sent to a Catholic boarding school suffering punishments designed to humiliate. Himself the subject of many of his father's drawings he records conversations he had with aparent whose craetive talent was irrepressible and whose personality was hard to fathom.
