When a liner is torpedoed, all on board must abandon ship. Five men escape into a lifeboat, one of them an old and frail priest. Curtain, the only sailor aboard, assumes responsibility for the terrified men and cares for the priest, while trying to navigate the tiny craft through the vast ocean.
