A multi-million pound counterfeit fashion operation with money-making international connections has moved into the Scottish crime scene, and has prospered as it has spread. That is, until the arrival of a rival group calling themselves The Cutters, who have brutal plans to take over. The Cutters rule by fear. Detective Superintendent Colin Thane of the elite Scottish Crime Squad is given the task of smashing The Cutters. At first, he finds it hard to accept as a genuine priority -- he already has his own worries, from a mislaid bank-raid witness to problems caused by promotions within his team of detectives. However, he changes his attitude when two men are shot, execution-style, through the back of the head: and a woman who dares to talk about The Cutters has her face slashed and almost bleeds to death. The Cutters must be stopped. Thane's first real breakthrough comes when he and his wife are invited to a glittering rag-trade fashion show for charity -- but the Crime Squad are to be hard hit before the all-important answers come together...
