Game Warden, Lara Boyce, while on a routine patrol of a state park in Maine, finds a diary in the woods belonging to a mysterious professional assassin.

When she begins to read the diary, she doesn’t know what to make of it at first. The author of the diary details a mysterious, government organization that he works for that employs him to assassinate criminals around the world.

Lara’s initial reaction is to send the diary to the FBI for them to investigate, but the more she reads, the more she is drawn into the assassin’s world. Despite her reservations, Lara keeps the diary and begins to make a connection with the man. He, like her, is a lonely, isolated person who lives alone except for a cat. Using clues from the diary, Lara sets out to find the assassin for reasons she can’t explain.

Slowly, Lara is drawn into the assassin’s world until, she finds herself a target of the mysterious, government agency and the only person who can save her is the assassin himself.
