A brand new Western adventure from Charles Ray!

After helping the army track down some deserting soldiers, Bass Reeves and his sidekick, Henry Lone Tree, head back to Muscogee. They decided to stop for the night in the railhead town of Checote Switch, a couple of days' ride from Muscogee. While there, a railroad worker is killed, and suspicion falls on a hand from one of the nearby ranches. Bass is the only law in the vicinity, so he and Henry set out on the ranch hand’s trail, finally cornering him near the Red River, where they take him into custody. They then have to protect the killer from the desire of the dead man’s friends to dispense immediate justice.

Faced with the choice of allowing the aggrieved men to get their revenge for the murder of their friend or facing them down and following the letter of the law, Bass does what he always does. He follows the law.
