When the Big Dogs Fight
(2026)(The third book in the Eustis Tucker: Country Lawyer series)
A Story by Charles Ray
After a year in Beeville, Eustis Tucker has had modest success as a lawyer, but business, as sometimes happens, has been slow. He and his clerk, Dan Carter, are bored until Eustis encounters young Rodney Layne, bruised and battered after a fight with the brother of the girl he loves, who also happens to be a member of the family that his family has been feuding with for decades. When Rodney and his bride-to-be run away, her father accuses him of kidnapping. It’s not a high-paying case, but interesting, so Eustis takes on the task of defending Rodney, and soon finds himself enmeshed in a complicated situation that originated before he was born. He learns that when the big dogs fight, the puppies get mauled, and he has to find a way to stop the emotional carnage.
