My wife, Jenna, and I raised our blended family of five children on five acres in Pickett, Wisconsin, where we care for an orchard of over twenty fruiting trees and bushes—apples, peaches, currants, and blueberries—along with large vegetable and flower gardens and a friendly flock of laying hens.
Our children and four grandchildren are now rooted in Michigan, Wisconsin, Utah, and Colorado.
My fiction and essays have appeared in a wide range of journals and magazines. I’ve published three short story collections and a novel, and I’m thrilled to have a novel, Life, and Death, and Giants.
After teaching at Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama, I returned to Wisconsin, where I’m now a professor of American Literature, Nature Writing, and Fiction Writing at UW–Oshkosh.
