I come from the land of grits and kudzu where the summers are hot enough to cook eggs on concrete―in other words, Georgia. As a grown-up, I've moved from Georgia to New Mexico to South Carolina to California to North Carolina to Oregon to Pennsylvania and, finally, back to Oregon where I live and work today in my rolling RV home beneath a giant redwood.
My love of mysteries came from my mom. She always snuck off to bed early and could be found curled up with mystery. I have never felt as at home with writing as I do in the land of cozy mysteries. Learning to craft a compelling mystery has been a lesson in humility and drive. My hat is off to every mystery writer out there! As a mystery writer, I do tons of research, delve deeply into human nature, explore the natural world, visit amazing places, and keep my butt in the seat guzzling caffeine and pounding keys far more than I've ever done in my publishing career. About halfway through each book, I write the story into a knot I don't think I can ever untie. It takes a lot of walking, a lot of sitting and staring off into space, a lot of hair pulling, a round or two of tai chi, and about a week to tease that knot apart and start the flow again.
