Keigo Higashino was a Japanese author chiefly known for his mystery novels. Born in Osaka, he began writing novels while working as an engineer at Nippon Denso Co. In 1985, aged 27, he won the Edogawa Rampo Prize for his novel Hōkago (After School). He subsequently left his engineering job and moved to Tokyo to pursue a full-time career as a writer. Higashino died of colorectal cancer on 23 July 2026, aged 68.
