Forgotten Christmas
(2026)(The eighth book in the Whitby's Forgotten Victims series)
A novel by Wes Markin
Seven years ago, a dying man confessed to burning two men alive.
Two days before Christmas, a plough turns up a burned body on a Christmas-tree plantation above Sandsend — and that confession starts to burn with it.
The dead man is Conrad Caine: a dealer who ran drugs through children along the Whitby coast, missing since the winter the fisherman Joe Thwaite confessed to killing two of his men.
On the face of it, the culprit couldn't be more obvious. Joe died before trial; the town called him a murderer; his son grew up under the word. Until DI Gerry Carver-Foley, leading her first investigation, sits down with Joe's taped confession and finds it too short, too clean — nothing in it to trip over. Nobody should be able to say that about a confession to a double murder. And DCI Frank Black — fresh out of hospital and under strict orders to rest — starts to fear that the case he helped close seven years ago closed on the wrong man.
By Christmas morning, dead Joe Thwaite will bring the truth home to his family. Whether anyone wants it or not.
Perfect for fans of David Gatward, JD Kirk, Rachel McLean, JM Dalgliesh and Simon McCleave.
Genre: Mystery
