Stephanie Sowden grew up in Manchester. While studying History and Politics at Durham University, she focused her degree primarily on America in the 20th Century and has always found it an irresistible setting when writing. A fascination with the psychology behind crime and why people do bad things is also a driving nature in her work and her debut novel, After Everything You Did, which will be published by Canelo in Spring 2022, explores the question of whether killers are born or made. Steph recently took part in Curtis Brown Creative’s selective novel writing course where she worked on perfecting her manuscript, finding an invaluable community of writers in the process.
After a brief foray into magazine journalism in her early 20s, Steph realised that her love of writing lay solely in fiction and so she switched up her career and retrained in another love of hers – food. She now runs her own catering company and finds the interplay between cookery and writing work very well together. While food is her day to day passion (and ambitions of a cookbook haven’t been ruled out!) writing fiction has been her lifelong ambition and she has committed herself to pursuing it around her long hours in the kitchen.Steph lives in South Manchester with her partner Dave and their little mad staffy, Butter.
